FAQs for Modern Apprentices
- What age do I need to be to get funding?
We have funding for 16-19 year olds and in some occasions can have funding for 20-24 year olds ( you would need to enquire at the time about this ) if you are 25 + we do have a payment plan in place as this costs £1500 and we are also ILA approved if you wanted to try and get SAAS or ILA funding to put this towards it.
- How do I apply for a Modern Apprenticeship?
You can either complete and submit the online application form or call the office to find out when the next registration day is being held. Someone will then take you through the next steps which would be to invite you along to either the registration day or an interview with ourselves.
- Is there any entry requirement i.e. specific grades etc?
No, we have designed our registration ( recruitment ) day in such a way that we collectively look at all the paperwork (i.e. application form, numeracy /literacy test ) and your interview and make a decision from there.
- Will I be fully qualified as a Nursery practitioner once I have completed?
Yes
- How long does it take to complete an SVQ Level 3 in Childcare with CMC?
We work towards a year with all our candidates however this is very much depending on the individual and your assessor would work out timelines with you on your Individual Training Plan (ITP).
- Do I have to attend a class room day each month?
No we do not have mandatory class based days. We do however hold optional support days that you can attend if you wish, alternatively your assessor may build one of these in to your assessment plan or Individual Training Plan if they feel you require the additional support in this case we would expect you to attend.
- How many times will I see my assessor?
This is normally once per month ( depending on the individual and if any addition support is required ) however at the beginning of your qualification additional days are built in to ensure you fully understand the SVQ process in full. In your first 8 weeks you will see your assessor at least 4 times.
- After I have been accepted for funding how long will it be till I get a placement?
If we have nurseries looking for a trainee we can start right away by sending you along to trial days / interviews. If we do not have nurseries with vacancies at the time we will work with you to help find a suitable placement, this is a 2 way process and we would also expect you to be calling or sending letters out to nurseries to locate a placement. This can take up to a few weeks after you have been accepted.
- Do you pay for my PVG?
No, we do not pay for this, it is down to you to purchase your PVG unless there is an agreement made between yourself and your employer for them to do so.
- Who pays my wages?
The nursery you are placed in is your employer so they will pay your wages, your contract of employment is with them, CMC take nothing to do with your wages, we are providing the funding to take you through your qualification.
- What happens in the registration day?
We hold these regularly, normally monthly depending on demand. We invite you along to our office where you can register your interest for funding with ourselves to undertake a Modern Apprenticeship in SVQ Level 3 Children’s Care Learning and Development. You will be required to complete an Application form, sit a short numeracy & Literacy Test followed by an interview for one of our Assessors / Mgrs. Successful candidates will be asked to attend our 2 Day Induction Training.
- What is involved in the 2 Day Induction Training?
Day 1 : Overview of the SVQ Programme
Day 2 : Some basic training on the following, Curriculum for Excellence, Pre Birth to Three, Promoting Positive Behaviour, Child Protection, Infection Prevention and Customer Service.
- After I qualify do the nursery keep me on full time?
There is no guarantee that the nursery you do your training with will provide a full time position.
