Earn as You Learn
Funded training places are available for 16-19 year olds. If you are aged 20 – 24 years funding may be available, please contact us to verify. alternatively this can delivered privately at a cost of £1500.00 for age groups ranging from 20 plus. You can apply through this website by completing the on-line application or alternatively call 07866 586379 for an application form.
As the Modern Apprenticeship requires a degree of written and numerical work we ask that you complete an essay along with a numeracy skills test and this will be completed as part of your Registration day. Subject to you meeting the criteria outlined, interviews will then be conducted.
If you are successful you will be invited to attend a free 2 day Induction training program. These 2 days cover the following topics:
- Overview to the SVQ program
- Candidate Expectations
- Child Protection
- Infection Prevention
- Curriculum for Excellence
- Pre Birth to Three
- Promoting Positive Behaviours
- Customer Service
Following the 2 day Induction you will then be assisted in sourcing employment. We can help you look for employment within a nursery in your area, and help you make arrangements to visit potential employers and have a trial day.
If successful with the Nursery Employer they will commence safer recruitment checks and a provisional start date will be agreed between you and the nursery (employer).
You will be employed full time in a nursery and attend support workshops where required at our training academy. Your assessor will arrange visits to the nursery at agreed times to observe and assess set tasks and to assess your written work, 2.5/3 hours will be set aside for these visits.
Working hours are at the discretion of each nursery. The majority of nurseries work a shift system and shift patterns will be discussed and arranged with the nursery (employer). Hours that may be worked under the Modern Apprenticeship scheme can be between 30 and 40 hours per week. Always check before accepting the position that you know what you’re working hours are.
The nursery, as your employer, is responsible for paying your apprentice wage. Please refer to the link below for current rates of pay for Modern Apprentices.
SVQs are individually tailored and 13 months is a guideline for completion. The guidelines issued by the Scottish Social Services Council state that SVQ level III Social Services & Health Care and Social Services (Children & Young People) is a nationally recognised qualification for a practitioner working with children.
