Modern Apprenticeships in Early Years Education

Fully funded training places are available for 16-19 year olds. If you are aged 20 – 29 years and have a disability or are care experienced (E.g. looked after by Local Authority or someone other than your parent(s), and require additional support or adjustments to help you achieve your qualification, you may be eligible for full funding.  Please contact us to verify. As the Modern Apprenticeship requires a degree of written work we may invite you to complete a short essay and a numeracy skills test at our training centre. Subject to you meeting the criteria outlined, an interview will then be conducted.
If you are successful we will recommend you to our clients who have M.A. vacancies.

If successful with the Nursery Employer they will commence safer recruitment checks and a provisional start date will be agreed between you and the nursery (employer).

You will be employed full time in a nursery and may be required to attend support workshops at our training centre. Your Childcare Management assessor will arrange visits to your nursery at agreed times to observe and assess set tasks and to assess your written work.  2.5/3 hours will be set aside for these visits.  Out-with this, your employer will also allocate time within your working hours to meet coursework deadlines, study time and research.

Working hours are at the discretion of each nursery. The majority of nurseries work a shift system and shift patterns will be discussed and arranged with the nursery (employer). Hours that may be worked under the Modern Apprenticeship scheme can be between 30 and 40 hours per week. Always check your contracted working hours before accepting the position.

The nursery, as your employer, is responsible for paying your apprentice wage. Please refer to the link below for current rates of pay for Modern Apprentices.

SVQs are individually tailored, and 14 months is a guideline for completion. The guidelines issued by the Scottish Social Services Council state that SVQ level 3 Social Services & Health Care and Social Services (Children & Young People) is a nationally recognised qualification for a practitioner working with children.

• Any issues relating to your employment e.g. hours of work, rate of pay, holidays/holiday pay, sick pay, contracts, workplace grievances, should be raised with your employer.  However, we can support you if required.
